On demand apps for the Sat Box s8200

Hi fellow poster's, brand new member here!

If I am in the wrong place, or I'm doing this wrong, please forgive me... I will soon get used to navigating around the forums.

I have today, taken delivery of a DishTv SatBox s8200. I have set it up and am happy, but have no idea how to find or get the OnDemand apps -

(TVNZ OnDemand, 3 Now). I have a NetComm Wireless router.

Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Dodgy/underpowered amplifier?

Is the following scenario indicative of a broken amplifier, or an amplifier that just doesn't have enough <something> or something else:

I started to write this out but it got too confusing with different TV's - we have 3 in total. So lets reference TV-A and TV-B in the story :)

I noticed that the reception on TV-A was horrible on most of the channels (some channels are fine) - running with DVB-T. When watching on another TV (TV-B), the reception is fine.

The cable on TV-B has the power source for the masthead amp running through it. So I unplugged the amplifiers power source and moved it to TV-A's socket (I know I was able to do this as the person installed one that didn't need the amp to be located on a specific outlet). Plugged it all in, and TV-A is now working fine.

I go back to the TV-B and plug in the aerial (which now has no amplifier power attached), and it works fine. Returning to TV-A I find this is now no longer working :\

So I think this is a bit weird. So I power off the amplifier power supply, remove the other TV-B's aerial cable from the wall plate and sit down to have something to eat and think about it a bit. Then after about 30 min I turned the power back on to the amplifier power supply (still in TV-A's wall plate), and TV-A is back to working fine.

So does this indicate that the amplifiers power supply can't supply enough signal strength to be split over 3 (ie the total number of plugged in TV's in the house) wall plates? Any thoughts on how I could resolve this? Its not that much of a big deal tbh because with TV-B it's used primarily for movies, gaming, and we can stream from our main DVB-T receiver to it anyhow, but it just makes me wonder

Thanks

Can I use a satellite dish with hardware designed for terrestrial reception?

I realise I'm probably clutching at straws, but is there any way (a converter of some sort?) that I can use my terrestrial Panasonic PVR with a satellite dish? I've moved from the city to a rural area where there is no UHF signal to be had.

Freeview satellite only able to pick up lbird1

Hi

I've recently moved into a place which has a sky dish. I purchased a flame Sat receiver from trade me.

I plugged it in and it worked fine. I turned it off and next time I used it it said no signal on all channels.

I put it down to a faulty unit and got another. This one did the same thing.

I factory reset it. Added a new satellite for the d1. Set lnb to 10750 and 22khz to off.

Searched for channels ( after seeing up all the transponder details) 12483/22500 for freeview. It has a bunch of other transponders already loaded too.

The only channel it gets is lbird1. If I turn on 22khz, then I get the optus test channel. I'm after tv1,2etc.

I notice that these are the only vertical channels. There horizontal ones don't work.

Does anyone have any ideas??

library deletions

Hi...new 8200 beginning this year.

some strange happenings noticed.

- TVNZ channel 1 disappeared and took a re scan to recover it

- Scheduled list library drops scheduled programs

- when a series ends the scheduler continues to search ad infinitum until forced to stop

- non demanded programmes turn up in the library apparently as a result of pausing a live programme which then records the channel including programmes following the paused item

- 2 items in the library cant be deleted...whilst the deletion process says OK ...items deleted...they remain and when clicked show "no audio or video files"

SHMBO.......demanding the sky box be returned............help!

Signal strength/Interference issue?

Have just recently shifted into own home. When we moved in, we had no TV reception at all. So gave one of the aerial installers a call so he came round and noted that the wiring was a bit dodgy, and the aerial was old.

So he installed a new aerial (looks similar to this: http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=TVNATP0958 - not one I have ever seen before), and redid the wiring to the jack point in the wall.

Our reception during the day has been great since then, but when night rolls in, the reception drops off so the picture is very pixelated, there are audio delays, and so on. We persevered for a month, then finally got sick of it and called him back recently.

His reply to us was that either we have dodgy electrical wiring in the house, or there is a street light within 50m of this house that is not turning on correctly. We're like "what??"

Is this true? We took note of the TV tonight and what time it started to go funny. Happened at 9.15pm, so we are going to monitor it for a few more nights.

No extra circuits were turned on between when the TV was fine and when the reception became pixelated... so we are guessing it is not this house wiring.

We have noted that there is a dodgy street light within 30m of the aerial though. Not sure if this really is true but we called the council anyway..

Are we being told a whopper, or is there really some credibility on the street light thing?

Incidentally, the Freeview website tells us we can get all Freeview services in this area with no hassles.

Random locking up

I purchased the T2200 about a week ago. While it does everything I want, I am having issues with it randomly locking up. The only way to fix it is to pull the power cord. Any one else having this issue, or offer me a suggestion on what to try. Maybe a warranty issue.

Vodafone STB Ethernet split?

Hey just after some advice before I go out and waste money. :):)

I have a Vodafone freeview box connected via a single Ethernet cable to our wall socket which goes to the modem and then the fibre box elsewhere in the house.

I'd like to also connect my xbox1 and TV to the same wired connection.

Is this possible?

What do I need to buy?

:)

Hi Android users,

A app is on the app store which you can use to control the S8200 / T2200 unit, You can also view the guide from the channels loaded in the box, plus stream the channel you are right on your phone.

More info here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ssofts.androidapps.rcu.dishtv&hl=en

Prime in HD

I noticed a shiny new Prime logo on the back of a bus this week, and noticed that there was a mention that they were going HD on sky on Saturday, so it would mess up people's series links.

Is there any word whether this will be Sky only or are they going to give freeviewers a quality upgrade too? It's a bit of a shame having to watch some decent shows on Prime's never particularly stellar SD feed.

Wanting to get Freeview on Sony KDL-42w-670a

I am wanting to get rid of Sky TV (another Netflix convert!), so have two options:

Get a Satelite Freeview box and connect it to my existing Sky dish (but will be SD)

or

Get a UHF aerial installed and connect it to my KDL-42w-670a.

I can't seem to find any confirmation that my KDL-42w-670a is able to receive Freeview. Can anyone confirm that it can, before I go down the path of paying to have a UHF aerial installed.

PS, have confirmed that I can get Freeview: From the Freeview site: Great, looks like you're very likely to have Freeview|HD coverage at...

Thanks,

Buying a TV Card?

Do people still do this? Have TV cards in their computer to record and watch live TV? Is there alternative to recording and watching live TV on your computer?

I was thinking about purchasing a hauppauge card as I used one a couple of years ago. I am not sure which one will work in New Zealand and be suitable for what I need it to do.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

RG6 cable installer - Wellington

$

Hi guys

I am in Wellington (Northland) and am hoping someone can recommend a good RG6 cable installer that can move a sky cable (from satellite) on the roof.

Current setup: My current SKY RG6 cable from the satellite goes along/under the chimney flashing which is under the roof. The cable then goes through the sarking and roof cavity (very small as flat pitch roof) to where the decoder is.

The chimney is now partially demolished and will be gone completely. The area will be expanded and become a room.

The builder has said that the RG6 cable won't be able to stay and is a leak risk when the new roof sheets gets installed. He has suggested that the cable get cut and run properly through a side penetration (through sofiet) rather than existing roof. He will cut the cable but make it accessible for joining. He is putting the roof on the framing from tomorrow.

Requirements: - I need someone to run some RG6 from the satellite dish to where the cut cable will be left and join everything up. Running new cable all the way through is not possible.

A bit of background here...A few weeks ago everything was going fine, then we had a bit of weather bringing on rain fade, went to watch tv in the morning no signal??? did a re scan and everything was normal.

Now I get no signal scanning finds nothing; however if I do a blind scan all I get is "optus test" @ %76 ?

does it sound like the dish has moved off to the wrong sat? or something else...

TVNZ channels missing on Freeview (Baxter's Knob transmitter, Porirua)

Hi,

I seem to have lost all the TVNZ channels; I'm receiving transmissions (Well, not, actually, but anyway...) from the Baxter's Knob transmitter in Porirua.

TV3 etc all ok; so I'd like to assume there isn't a major problem with my aerial (but open to the concept).

Anyway, is there a website and/or status page somewhere that lists "known issues" with the transmission networks?
