Panasonic DMR-XW390
hello from a newbie :)We bought a Panasonic DMR-XW390 from Dick Smiths a week ago and have been experiencing problems similar to those discussed elsewhere in this forum. Panasonic DMR-XW390 DVD recorder timer record problem - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=106604Panasonic DMR-XW390 wont record +1 - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=106653The only thing stopping us from taking it straight back to the shop is wondering whether our issues are related to the TV it's hooked up to: an old Panasonic Sophia (TC-21S80R2?). We have bought a new Panasonic Viera TH-P42UT50, however due to DS cocking up deliveries we don't have it yet, and it's likely that we won't get it until Saturday, when our 14 days on the XW390 run out. (yes, overall we've had a fantastic time with this particular spending spree)The XW390 is connected to the Freeview aerial, which is then connected to the old tv via co-axial cable. There are no HDMI cables in place, because the old tv has never heard of HDMI. The aerial is a DDS 30dB Outdoor UHF HD Aerial. The main problems are mainly to do with series linked recordings:Some simply don't starting up. One day it will work, the next it will, then not, and so on. Very random and intensely irritating.Frequently records a programme on the normal 1 or 3 channel, then on their +1 (usually messing up other set recordings).Mis-labelling recorded programmes when back to back, e.g. if X is recorded and appears as X on the saved programmes list, but Y, which started straight afterwards, appears as X as well. At first we thought this was related to the +1 issue, then realised that the channel was wrong and when you hit play.. oh look, it's actually Y.Any and all advice gratefully received!

Best FreeviewHD PVR to replace MySky+?
I've got MySky+ with Sky Basic but my family only really watch the FTA channels. Hence a FreeviewHD PVR makes a lot more sense. My wife likes the MySky+ unit and hence I'm after a PVR that is at least as user friendly as MySky+.Looking through the forums here it appears the MagicTV MTV3700TD would be a good option. My only concern is that it is over 2 years old and that a new model may released soon. Does anyone know if any new models are planned for the near future? This is potentially only a minor concern as the hardware appears fine and they seem to regularly release updates. The other option I considered were some of the Panasonic units. My main issue with these though is that you can't record two channels and watch a third on the unit as you can with Magic TV (don't want to have to switch back to TV). People also seem to have many issues with the EPG and recordings.Has anyone swapped from MySky to MagicTV and found it works well? Are the Panasonic units actually reasonable options? Are there any other units I should be considering? Thanks.

Can't get all freeview channels on my Panasonic DVD recorder
Hi, Please help me, I'm going nuts!I used to get all the freeview channels on my panasonic DVD recorder.I don't know what I have changed but now I can only get channels 3: TV3, 4: FOUR, 8: TV3 Plus1, 9: C4, 18: The Shopping Channel.I have tried using easy setup to reload the channels but no luck, I have restored from the factory settings and from the shipping settings but still no luck.My TV can receive channel 1 and 2 when not going through my panasonic DVD recorder so why can't my DVD recorder get channel 1 and 2 (and whatever else is missing).I have tried to enter a timed recording for channel 2 (one of the channels I can't get at the moment) tomorrow night and I get an error message saying that the program cannot be booked at this time, please try later - (code -2).Can you help?RegardsAlison.

DVB-T2 adoption in New Zealand
There has been a topic in recent days over DVB-T2 and backwards compatibility to DVB-T and it has got me thinking that Freeview really need to start getting DVB-T2 compliant receivers into the New Zealand eco system. With the demand for spectrum from cellular operators growing, along with more content (it seems but the loss of TVNZ 7 and the like could be taken a different way but that is a different topic) in the broadcasting world, T2 is the next step on the technological road map. So the question is, when will Freeview start with T2? Because we are already getting a current round of tv replacement for DSO and to me it seems like we have missed an opportunity for getting a decent chunk of the devices in the market ready for the next step.** this is my opinion and does not represent my employers view in any way shape or form **

Freeview playing again?
So much for Freeview approved hardware etc working in "harmony" with the Freeview Transmission! From: http://www.dishtv.co.nz/News/Changes to the Freeview broadcastTuesday, 30 April 2013 17:05 Freeview has recently made some changes to the broadcast which has affected Record Bookings in Freeview approved DTRs. The result can be that recordings are not happening although they have been booked by the user. This is because the information about those bookings is actually sent via the Freeview broadcast and when it changes the DTR is no longer able to record the program you booked. It is possible that these changes will also affect the channels loaded into non-recording Freeview receivers. To correct this problem please Factory default your unit via the menu and rescan your channels. For users of the DishTV T1020, T1050, S7090 and S7070r this can be done in the main menu by selecting Installation -> Factory Reset. Select Yes and enter the pin number (the default is 0000). This will allow you to rescan all channels by following the onscreen menu. After rescanning the channels you will need to reselect your Record Bookings as the factory reset will have deleted all of these. For MagicTV users please go to Menu -> Settings -> System -> Factory Reset. After the factory reset please follow the onscreen instructions to rescan the channels. After rescanning the channels you will need to reselect your Record Bookings as the factory reset will have deleted all of these.Unfortunately Freeview intends to make more changes to the broadcast over the next two weeks. This can continue to affect your Record Bookings and will sometimes cause them to stop working. While these changes are happening to the broadcast the only solution is a factory reset as above.DishTV does not have any control over these changes as they are made by Freeview.

Freeview windows 8 TV tuner card options.
Hi,I am making a new computer for my granddfather, upgrading from his old windows xp box. It had a FM radio and analog tuner in it, and he has specified that his new computer must be able to do the same. Here are the specs I am looking at currently:A-RAM Value DDR3 PC10600/1333MHz CL9 2x4GBSeagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 64MB 1TB Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4Ghz Socket 1155 Box Silverstone Strider Essential ST40F-ES 400W Samsung SH-224BB Asus P8H77-M LE Microsoft Windows 8 Professional Eng (Upgrade) BitFenix Merc Alpha (Black)I would like to know what TV tuner cards work with windows 8 professional. I am looking for the cheapest internal one that would work. He would like FM (not essential), and doesn't care how many streams it can receive, as long as it is one digital. Also what software would work with the card? Does the software come with the card/windows/third-party?Is the Intel HD 4000 good enough for HD stream from the card? Thanks

Freeview TVs - Turning off the Info Banner
Pretty poor introduction to life after analogue for Nelsonians. Nightly reception issues are being reported by lots of people. Nothing on Freeview's network status page, and the link to JDA no longer works.A consequence of the marginal signal is that on some TVs the banner at the top of the screen that appears when you first select a channel is permanent. Any tips on how to stop that would be great. Pushing the return button works for a while, but at te next signal hiccup the banner is back.

Is the Freeview EPG consistent across TV brands?
I only have access to a Panasonic TV at present and the Freeview | HD guide looks and functions well.
Do all brands share the same EPG format and UI, or are they (subtly or completely) different?
I am specifically interested in the 2013 LG models, does anyone have an image or photo of the EPG they could share?
I've tried asking in stores but all of the TVs are invariably hooked up to an external AV source and the salespeople have no clue what I'm asking...

Need some help trying to setup the Superview 890 freeview receiver.
I'm having some issues setting up a Superview 890 Freeview Sat. receiver. I had it all setup and working 100% until I disconnected the Sky decoder in the living room. From my understanding the Sky decoder was powering the LNB. So I swapped out the 3 way splitter with a 3 way All ports powerpass splitter thinking that would solve it. Other options I have tried in the Superview settings are: 22k to on/off, LNB power to 13/18v, 13v, 18v12V to on/off. With the Sky decoder connected and doing a blind scan. Freeview channels are detected at 11300.Any help would be greatly appreciated as my knowledge is limited.

Good Satellite freeview PVR, is ultraplus 920HD ok?
My parents in law are in a rental at the moment and it only has a satellite dish. The owners will not put up an aerial for Freeview HD. I think the easiest thing it to simply buy a freeview Satellite box rather than fitting a UHF aerial themselves and having to take it all down again cleanly when they leave. Anyone got any recommendations? The most ideal unit I have found so far is this one:http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/ultraplus-920hd-pvr-digital-satellite-receiver.htmlI have a 2.5 inch HDD they can have so as long as the unit is good, they can have a freeview Sat PVR for about the same cost as an aerial, hockey puck and wiring. Was also going to check out JB's etc and see what is on the retail shelves as I have no experience with freeview Sat receivers.
